Hello there! I'm Jen, a DPhil student in Philosophy at the University of Oxford (Reuben College). My areas of specialization include moral philosophy and practical ethics—with particular interests in the ethics of technology (including artificial intelligence), intergenerational ethics, moral status, and moral responsibility. I also work on projects in experimental philosophy.
My doctoral project spans several topics in AI ethics through the lens of moral agency. I am primarily focused on who—or what—gets to make moral decisions. My supervisors are Carissa VĂ©liz and Alison Hills. I'm an Oxford-Rueben scholar and a Forethought Foundation Global Priorities Fellow. I'm also an affiliated student with the Institute for Ethics in AI and with the Oxford BioXPhi Lab.
I hold an MPhil in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, an MA in Medieval Icelandic Studies from the University of Iceland, and a BA in Philosophy and Public Policy from Duke University.
